Location

The Shire of Shark Bay is a small but thriving community with a permanent population of just under 1,000 people. The main settlements are Denham and Useless Loop, a ‘closed’ mining town about 250 km from Denham (by road) or 25 km across the bay (by boat or aircraft).

Shark Bay lies on the extreme western coast of Australia between 24 and 27 degrees south of the equator. It is approximately 800km north of Perth, the capital of the state of Western Australia. Shark Bay comprises two large, shallow embayments, numerous islands and a coastline over 1,500 km long.
